About the Role

Kairostek is looking for an experienced Head of Payments to own end-to-end engineering delivery for our crypto and fiat payment systems. You'll lead the backend (Java) and frontend (React) teams building our payment platform, driving the technical roadmap, architecture, and delivery for secure, scalable, high-availability payment infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Payments Engineering Leadership: Own the technical roadmap and engineering delivery for crypto and fiat payment systems, spanning backend (Java) and frontend (React)

• Team Leadership: Lead and grow dedicated backend and frontend engineering squads for payments; conduct 1:1s and build technical capability

• Architecture & Scalability: Define architecture for high-availability, secure, and scalable payment processing across crypto and fiat rails

• Payment Provider Integration: Oversee integration with crypto payment gateways, PSPs, banking partners, and blockchain networks

• Security & Reliability: Ensure payment systems meet security, fraud-prevention, and reliability standards for financial transactions

• Delivery Management: Drive sprint planning, release management, and CI/CD practices across payment squads

• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Product, Compliance, and other engineering leads to align payment systems with business and regulatory needs

Qualifications & Experience

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in an engineering leadership role

• Strong hands-on background in backend development with Java (Spring/Spring Boot or equivalent)

• Solid experience with frontend development in React

• Proven experience building or operating payment systems, ideally spanning both crypto and fiat rails

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, transaction integrity, and high-availability architecture

• Experience with databases, message queues, and microservices architecture

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

• Ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams across squads

Preferred Qualifications

• iGaming, fintech, or crypto/payments platform experience

• Familiarity with blockchain networks, wallets, and crypto payment gateways

• Experience with PCI-DSS or other financial compliance/security standards

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
